Dun Sitting Opens Today


KUCHING, Mon: Blessed with a glorious day the opening ceremony of the First Meeting for the Third Term of the 19th Sarawak State Legislative Assembly (DUN) went without a hitch today. 

Sarawak’s newly-appointed Governor, Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar soon after arrival at the DUN parade ground proceeded to a special dias to take salute from the guard-of-honour mounted by 105 officers and men of the General Operations Force (PGA) and Royal Malaysia (PDRM) led by Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Jiffry Ardin. 

Later, the Head of State, who was accompanied by his wife, Toh Puan Fauziah Mohd Sanusi, descended from the dias to inspect the guard-of-honour with the accompaniment by the PDRM band consisting of 40 personnel, led by Band Director, Inspector Frankie Billy.

Also present were Sarawak Premier, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Abdul Rahman Zohari Tun Datuk Abang Openg, along with his wife, Puan Sri Datuk Amar Juma'ani Tun Tuanku Bujang, and other honoured guests.

Later, the Head of State  presented his maiden speech at the DUN Chamber to declare open the sitting as the eight Head of State. 

The 19th Sarawak DUN Sitting scheduled for May 6 to May 15 will see the tabling of five Bills.

The bills are the Supplementary Supply (2023) Bill, 2024, Supplementary Supply (2024) Bill, 2024, Sarawak Ports Authority Bill, 2024, Protection of Public Health (Amendment) Bill, 2024, and Sarawak Forestry Corporation (Amendment) Bill, 2024.

Of these bills, the Sarawak Ports Authority Bill 2024 is a new bill to be tabled at this session of the Sarawak DUN primarily to consolidate port services in Sarawak under one port authority.
